NTAA Webinars

The NTAA holds a variety of webinars to provide information and context to NTAA Member Tribes and other Tribal Air Offices about important U.S. EPA rules, court decisions, and more. Multiple webinars are held every year when necessary to provide information on time sensitive topics. Webinars are announced through NTAA’s member Tribe listserv. Past topics include taconite, landfill burning, and more.

Tribal Reserved Rights Rule

On December 9, 2025, both NTAA and the National Tribal Water Council co-hosted a webinar discussing the Tribal Reserved Rights Rule.

Clearing the Air: Understanding the threat of PFAS in Tribal Communities

On November 19, 2025, NTAA hosted a second PFAS Webinar, “Clearing the Air: Understanding the threat of PFAS in Tribal Communities.” The webinar highlighted growing evidence of airborne PFAS emissions from chemical plants, incinerators, and manufacturing facilities. The presentation examined the Chemours Case Study, litigation, and regulatory enforcement. Dr. David Gay presented on the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP) and their expansion of PFAS monitoring in precipitation, with over 16 sites currently active and plans for more—including Tribal locations. This effort aims to close data gaps and inform strategies for reducing exposure. The final speakers were from the Sipayik Environmental Department, sharing its ongoing research on PFAS contamination in the Skutik River and Passamaquoddy Bay.

Tribal Roles in Implementing the EPA Oil and Gas Rules Webinar

The NTAA hosted a webinar on September 4 to inform member Tribes of the EPA’s Oil and Gas Methane Rules. Speakers included representatives from the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Navajo Nation, EPA OAQPS, and Environmental Defense Fund.

PFAS and Air Quality Webinar

The NTAA hosted a webinar on October 3 to inform member Tribes of the causes and impacts of PFAS on air quality. Speakers included representatives from the National Atmospheric Deposition Program, Jamul Indian Village of California, and Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.

Waste Burning Webinars

The NTAA hosted a webinar series to provide resources to member Tribes regarding burning solid waste, particularly for Alaska Tribal communities. Taconite Proposed Rule Webinar

The NTAA held a webinar to provide information regarding the EPA’s proposed taconite rule to member Tribes. The webinar featured panelists from Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, the State of Minnesota, Earth Justice, and NTAA. View the recording of the webinar using the password: “?ryFYM.3”

NTAA Webinar Workshop for Tribes on EPA’s Clean School Bus Program

This virtual workshop was held on August 4, 2022 in lieu of NTAA’s Mobile Sources Work Group monthly call. This workshop will help Tribes learn how to access EPA’s $5 Billion investment for the Clean School Bus Program (CSBP). For the next 5 years, Tribes and Tribal Schools are prioritized for funding new electric and cleaner school buses. Applications for the first year of funding closes on August 19th!

NTAA was honored to have Congresswoman Katie Porter and EPA OAR Deputy Assistant Administrator, Alejandra Nunez.

On July 29, 2020, NTAA held a webinar that provided Tribes with an Overview of COVID in the Workplace and Funding for Tribes, as Tribes consider opening public spaces safely. The webinar included individuals from a variety of backgrounds including ITEP, Tribal entities, HUD, EPA, and a special guest, Philmer Bluehouse a traditional Diné Peacemaker, who grounded the presentation in Indigenous knowledge around the pandemic. On March 6, 2019 the NTAA IAQ Work Group hosted an informational webinar on tools Tribes can use to improve the air quality of homes. The webinar included stories from Tribes around Indian Country as well as an introduction to the EPA Tribal Green Building website and funding sources.

EPA’s Tribal Green Building Toolkit

On June 26, 2019, the NTAA Indoor Air Quality Work Group presented a webinar that explored vaping and e-cigarettes and how Tribes can create and utilize policy tools to reduce the threats to indoor air quality. The 1 ½ hour-long webinar included speakers from the National Native Network and the California Department of Public Health’s Tobacco Control Program (CDPH).

On October 11, 2018, the NTAA provided an Informational webinar on EPA’s proposed SAFE Vehicles Rule. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had proposed to amend certain existing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) and greenhouse gas emissions standards for passenger cars and light trucks and establish new standards, covering model years 2012 through 2026.

The NTAA Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Work Group hosted a webinar on how the use and production of methamphetamine impacts tribes on Thursday, Oct 19, 2017. Learn more about this ongoing problem in tribal communities and the sensitive challenges it presents for families across Indian Country.
